Journalist looks into the abyss of Manhunt.net...
The new issue of Out Magazine has a very long (for Out) piece by Michael Joesph Gross on the ‘social networking’ site Manhunt.net. I posted a lovely photo of the founders/owners of the site below. One of which claims to be a “liberal Republican”, which is a category I didn’t know existed until reading that. So, Mr. Gross seems to think Manhunt is the end of gay...

Hating Hipsters: maybe it means you're an old
Some more interesting analysis of the hating on hipsters phenomenon. Quote:
Well, the first reason is, journalists doing pieces like this are usually getting closer to 30 and they see this new generation of kids as worthless young upstarts who don’t care about stuff as much as they should. This is a natural part of getting older. Seniors will always hate sophomores. That’s why there’s wedgies....
Newsflash: Media totally in the tank for Obama
Someone please alert Time magazine this is the stalest story of the week. Yes, the media has a liberal bias. Yes, they love Barack Obama. No, it is not going to change the results of the election. This is the worst kind of media on media reporting that no one, myself especially, gives a crap about. If anything this just gives the blowhards over at Fixed News something to gas about. ...
Okay, okay I hate Paris just as much as the next person, but you have to give her props for at least being able to read the cue cards in this Funny or Die video, because it did make me chuckle. Paris 08?

So, the new movie Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist does not look incredibly ground breaking, but it does look really cute. I wonder how long Michael Cera is going to play the Michael Cera character thing. He is kind of the new Matthew Broderick. And Kat Dennings is just cool…
Zen and the art of yuppiness
More brilliant reaction to the hipster dilemma, this time from my friend Katy:
If there was a way to infuse the pragmatism of yuppiness – ie work hard, get ahead, save your money, get married, procreate, etc – with the rejection of corporate roboticism – ie work 40 hrs a week for a 3% raise each year, keep your mouth shut, submit to the man – well, then maybe we’d really be somewhere....
Hipster Nation Rises up in Anger/Apathy
Great comments reading on the Adbusters ‘Hipsters are the end of Civilization article’. Particularly by Rob S. (whoever you are Rob S., I hope you are working on your thesis at UofC)
We’re regurgitating cool because really, why not? The fact that the someone deems a need to create something new is pompous in itself. Nothing is new. Those fashions and that music — it was...

Does this make me an Old?
So there is this hipster movie out, at least it sounds like a hipster movie. I don’t think it is playing anywhere, because hipsters don’t go to the movies, but you can watch the trailer here. Anywho, Anthony Lane gave it the full critical treatment, and this quote made me chuckle/want to hurl:
To praise the beauty of this film, then, is not enough; what lends it tension is that it’s...
Thanks for the reminder 'Sideways'
So, I ordered up Sideways on the on demand today. Haven’t seen it in a while, and I was in the mood (what mood is that exactly? drunk? no.) The movie is really funny, and let’s just say it reminded me of how not to be in life. A good story will do that…light up your brain, and make you want to change some things. So, go rent Sideways again, or go to Napa and get really drunk...

Fergie 'thrilled' to play a prostitute in 'Nine'
Someone at the AP has a sense of humor (actual headline here).
“She’s basically a prostitute on the beach,” Fergie told The Associated Press in an interview.
Insert your own joke here (its just too easy).
What it feels like for a girl
I wouldn’t know, but this video made me feel the pain.

The male version of Chick Lit, books written by men and directed at a male audience. Best exemplified by the works of Tom Clancy. The Hunt for Red October is an example of Prick Lit.
I just submitted this to the urban dictionary. Let’s see what happens! Maybe I’ll be famous!

Gawd, Faloonaville loves how they keep digging for the dirt on Obama and they just don’t find anything! Here is a whole article in the NYT about him teaching at U of C Law School for like 12 years, and he didn’t nail a single student! The usual themes about him being a fence sitter and in love with himself are mentioned, but nothing salacious at all! Sooo brrrring. Faloonaville...

Faloonaville loves the way John Tierney at the NYT is always debunking stuff. It seems like he is anyway, casual reader that we are. Click the link, I swear you will feel better about your day!

A few days late and couple dollars short
So the season premiere of Mad Men was a let down for me. And I will tell you why: over hype/over saturation in the media. It was a smart strategy for them to release it when it is literally the only thing on television worth watching, so every single piece of media covered it, but it killed it for me. All the hype made me think I was getting something I wasn’t. It is a quiet show that...

Send an email to Barry!
This reason I love this piece in the New Yorker about the guy who owns the email address barackobama@gmail.com, is because he says “I just thought it would be kind of funny to create an e-mail address based on a random senator whose name no one could spell.” He did this before Obama was really super Obama future president of Germany. And now he gets all kinds of crazy emails. I’m changing...
They have this show on truTV called Speeders (which reminds me of Cheaters another fave) where basically cops pull people over and they video tape it! Brilliant entertainment! I wish I would have pitched this show. “Okay it’s like Cops except we only pull people over, and there is less white trash”. Sold!
But srsly the girl in this clip is every girl I know! In a hilarious...
